Preparing to List Your House

Now is a great time to sell your home, especially if you put in the work to make it as attractive to buyers as possible. The process of listing your house for sale doesn’t need to be stressful or overwhelming. You can set aside some time each weekend to complete a few home improvement projects that will get your home ready to put on the market.

Declutter & Clean

Go through every drawer, cabinet, closet, and storage space and start boxing up items that you want to donate or sell. Anything you haven’t used in the last year, can’t see yourself using in the future, or that is no longer working properly or aesthetically pleasing, should be purged. Once you have gotten rid of the clutter, you can begin deep cleaning your home. Focus on one room or area each weekend and clean every nook and cranny. This includes tile and grout work, the corners of floors, walls and baseboards, fan blades and window blinds, inside of drawers and cabinets, and the inside and outside of windows.

Complete Minor Repairs

Next, make a list of small repairs that you can complete yourself. Take care of projects like replacing hardware on drawers and cabinets, fixing leaking faucets, repairing caulking and grout, painting doors and walls, and fixing window and door screens.

Focus on Curb Appeal

One of the final and most important things you can do to prepare your home for listing is to improve its curb appeal. Cut the grass and trim trees and bushes. Repair siding, gutters, and downspouts. Improve your landscaping, or put out pots of flowers. Repair any areas that are dirty or in disrepair, like a cracked sidewalk or driveway, dinged up garage door, dirty deck or patio, or damaged mailbox, doorbell, or house numbers.
